Aloha West Molokai Resort Condominium Homeowners
Our annual Homeowner and Board meetings were held on November
14 and 15, 2008. Meetings were
very well attended, the potluck dinner and entertainment were
excellent, golf and dominos were
played, and the annual banquet was reported to be the very best
yet. This year we held the
Homeowners Banquet around our pool deck. The sunset view and food
were spectacular ! ! !
There was a tremendous amount of participation in our meetings
and events this year, yielding a very
healthy quantity of owner input and feedback regarding the operations
of our Association. Lots of
changes occurred this past year, both good and bad. Some challenges
were overcome and some
challenges remain.
On the financial side, the huge increase in utility costs this
year put a large hole in our budget which
the Board struggled to deal with. After full review and discussion,
plus a full Budget Committee and
Board meeting, the Board voted on November 14th to increase the
maintenance fees for 2009. The new
rates are: Studio = $391.00, 1 Bedroom = $521.00 and Cottage =
$650.00. This increase was
unavoidable in order to balance the budget and protect our reserve
funds. It was also decided to
increase the storage locker rates to $8.00 and $16.00 per month
depending on locker size as well as
increase the washer/dryer rates to $1.25.
Election results: During the November 15, 2008 annual meeting
elections were held and two new
Board Members were elected. Ellyn Dooley and Bob Hagler joined
continuing members Jeff Kent,
Barbara Kyte and Betsy Thompson on the Board. Subsequent to the
annual meeting, Betsy Thompson
resigned her position on the Board and the remaining four Board
Members began the process of
appointing her replacement. The Board reached out for any and
all suggested names and developed a
list of nine qualified people who had expressed interest in the
past or whom other homeowners
recommended for consideration. All nine were contacted and all
those interested met with the Board
for discussion. After full review, a vote was taken resulting
in unanimous election of Dale Matlock to
fill Betsy Thompson’s unexpired term.
Your new AOAO Board immediately got to work holding six meetings
over the fo llowing five days.
A list of 14 major action items was developed and initiated along
with dozens of other topics being
discussed and decisions being made. I will provide a full report
of all our actions and activities in the
December President’s letter to our Homeowners.
Please let me close with a huge thank you to all those who helped
make our association a success over
the past year and promise you that your new Board is unified and
fully committed to bringing positive
improvements to our shared piece of paradise.
Mahalo,
Jeff Kent
